Tenor Cleft

November 4, 2011

that plunging chord unravelled
months of plastic poise

peeled away second skin and skim
of brave new words,
skinny mochas,
business not unusual – all

summarily stripped
in the velvet void gaping
between Bocelli’s
fourth and fifth
semibreve

  1. So strong Becky… last three lines are fantastic. Appeal to me in particular being a musician ( I took music at master’s level)

    • Well..thank you Luke…I got stuck at recorder level myself, so appreciate a real musician’s opinion… I can do unravelling though..
Good to see you here again…

Velvet void and plastic poise…just love those phrases Becky. I think velvety is an appropriate adjective to describe your poetry in general, so smooth and it just gets better and better. Lovely piece.

  3. nice i love your rhymes through out…fantastic bit of poetry…and def high praise on the close…

  4. the months of plastic poise peeling away second skin…so great..and i’m with luke…being a musician as well…this really speaks to me… you got a strong voice becky…much enjoying your poetry

  5. I love that lingering semibreve! Beautiful poetry!

  6. OH VELVET VOID
    you know i love so.

    so strong Becky:)

  7. Liked you just sucked the reader into a black hole, in a wonderful way though, great verse.

  8. Is there a black hole of music?

  9. Your poetry is undeniably yours and I love that about it. Another stellar (sorry, it slipped out) write from you.

  10. I am the worst recorder to ever play “Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree” and yet I got the sense of velvet lushness that this tiny musical instant tipped the narrator into, disrupting a plastic upright skim milk no sugar facade. A real pleasure to read and ponder.

  11. Wonderful incorporation of music and the universe. It amazes me to think about sound forever traveling through the cosmos. Beautiful.

  12. My second poem here… I think I’m hooked…. NEXT!
